Overlapping House

The overlapping of form, space and time

Upon hearing a proposal from an owner who wants to build vacation house in a 7-bedroom in Khao Yai (a popular holiday destination for families), Vaslab was able to envision a large villa amidst natural surroundings. When surveying the area, we learned that the site has a beautiful contour -the second highest among surrounding mountains. The highlight of the location is the 180 degree panoramic view of Khao Yai National Park, where one can clearly see the overlaps of beautiful mountain lines. The overlapping contour lines thus becomes our space-form generating based upon the contour to accommodate the slope as much as possible.

Ventilation and views are our top priority. We designed the house form to run along the mountain’s contour in relation to the main axis, so as to blend with the slope just like the main idea of designing this house to be harmony with nature.

The overlap concept is conveying through the floor plan design of the first and second floors overlapping with another. What is interesting is not only the beauty of the form, but also spaces that create shades in the house, bridging the gap between the interior and exterior spaces, to create a common area where everyone can spend time together.

The project involved good collaboration with many parties such as contractors from Doubleclick Construction, landscape architects from MAGLA, and interior designers from PHTAA Living Design. The outcome of such a good team work made the overlapping house one of Vaslab’s outstanding project.
